Strategies & Activities
Our initiatives to end hunger in the coffeelands
Strategies
All activities that Food 4 Farmers engages in fall under 3 main strategies: home food production, livelihood diversification, and capacity building for farming communities.
Home Food Production
We work with families to produce their own food to eat. Home gardens, fruit trees, and beekeeping apiaries provide fresh, nutritious food and introduce new foods to families’ diet.

Livelihood Diversification
We connect coffee farmers with opportunities to diversify their income by selling excess produce from their gardens, honey from their apiaries, and other value-added goods.

Capacity
Building
We work closely with coffee co-op staff and local program promoters to provide professional development and leadership training, especially for women and youth, to ensure long-term success.

Activities
Our three main strategies encompass a range of complementary activities, working together to effectively address hunger in coffee-farming communities.
Home Gardens
We help coffee farmers create home gardens to grow fresh, nutritious food, improving diets, reducing food insecurity, and lowering household expenses
School Gardens
We partner with local schools to establish gardens that provide fresh, healthy food, teach practical farming skills, and promote nutrition among students and their communities.
Production of Basic Grains
We help coffee farmers grow staple grains like corn and beans to enhance food security and reduce reliance on purchased food.
Agroforestry
We help coffee farmers integrate fruit and pollinator trees on their land, improving soil health, diversifying their incomes, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Backyard Animals
We help coffee-farming families raise backyard animals like chickens and goats to improve nutrition and provide additional income opportunities.
Beekeeping
We help coffee farmers develop beekeeping operations to improve crop pollination, create additional sources of income, and enhance household nutrition.
Training of Program Implementers
We provide training for local program implementers, equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and resources to lead sustainable food security initiatives in their communities into the future.
Seed Saving
We support coffee-farming families in seed saving to preserve biodiversity, reduce costs, and ensure a sustainable supply of crops for future planting.
Farmers Markets
We help coffee-farming families establish local farmers markets, creating opportunities to sell surplus garden produce within their communities, improving incomes and access to fresh food.
